Museum Series: Ancient Totem
Museum Series (Cairo Edition)
Museums connect us to our past. Curators set up timelines and tell stories through artifacts, objects, and art of a time long gone. They provide us with a sense of community and belonging by promoting past human experiences and our collective cultural heritage.
I spent five weeks in Cairo this summer. To escape the heat I mostly visited museums and took pictures of anything I was allowed to photograph.
The enamel features a decal of a carved wood cow head that was found in the tomb of Amenhotep II, and dates back to the 18 Dynasty (1550 - 1295 BC) in the Valley of the Kings. They were usually placed there as a form of protection.
This piece started as photo that I took at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. The photo was then printed on water slide decal paper and applied to enamel. Finally it was fired in the kiln.
I dressed up this pendant in a turquoise crown, and sterling silver prong setting.
30" clasp free sterling silver chain.
One of a kind.
