Museum Series: Artifact Pendant (Peacock)
Museum Series II (Cairo Edition)
I spent five weeks in Cairo this summer. To escape the heat I mostly visited museums and took pictures of anything I was allowed to photograph.
I really wanted to end this year with a complete collection as a tribute to my love of archeology and museums. In a way it’s a form of time travel as curators transport us to another space and shows us that it’s all been done before.
This pendant is a continuation of work that was initiated a long time ago, and stands as a testament to our connectedness to one another. I found this peacock artifact at the Coptic Museum in Cairo. It’s a carved stone panel that dates back to the 11th century. I edited the photo I took at the museum and printed it onto waterslide decal paper and then transferred it to enamel.
The bird is set in a heavily oxidised fine and sterling silver frame adorned with variscite. The pendant hangs from a 18” sterling silver diamond cut chain with a secure lobster clasp.
One of a kind.
